A red brick promenade lines three miles of waterfront. The city's pier - stretching 1,540 feet into the ocean - is one of White Rock's major features. While at the beach you can visit the great white boulder for which the city is named. Legends claim the son of a sea god tossed this 486.63-ton magical rock across the sea to prove his strength. It landed on the shores of Semiahmoo Bay and became known as the Great White Rock, from which the town later took its name.
Nearby, in South Surrey, Crescent Beach is a must-see as well. Located at the west end of the Semiahmoo Peninsular, at the end of Crescent Road, this beach has a more rustic feel with its gravelled walkway. Its variety of unique shops and restaurants make it a destination for much more that a simple day at the beach.
With a population approximately 17,000, White Rock is a unique community within the Greater Vancouver mosaic. Located just five miles from the U.S. border and only 35 miles from Vancouver, it is a charming and picturesque suburban retreat.
